Families Forever

$60,000

Initiative Summary & Purpose

Funding is being sought to ensure the sustainability and expansion of the Truancy Prevention Program in Lawrence County.

Families Forever piloted a new truancy prevention program with local schools, focusing on kindergarten through 2nd grade students. The intervention was based on collaboration with local school officials and cultural humility to reach and support vulnerable families. Staff from Families Forever works with school officials to identify children struggling with various factors including school attendance, tardiness, hygiene, appearance, and behavior. The intervention begins with communication and relationship building with families and includes efforts to remove barriers to student success (e.g., household dysfunction and lack of resources.) The intervention was associated with a significant reduction in absences among targeted clients.
